Buy a marine radio? Then Mediawinkel.eu has come to the right place. VHF radios are also known as maritime telephones or maritime VHF radios. It is a system that makes it possible to contact other ships at sea. The system is a transceiver that allows you to send messages to other ships or ports in the area over relatively short distances. View our complete range of marine radios above. Read on to learn more about these systems.

Different types of

In the Mediawinkel.eu range you will find a wide range of marine radios. We are sure that you will always find a suitable system. However, you should not buy a VHF radio without thinking about it carefully. We have different variants in our range, each with different properties. What are the most important features to consider when purchasing the system?

The size of the ship

Obviously, the system you use for a small ship will not be the same as the system you purchase for a larger ship. After all, there is more space in a larger ship than in a small ship. For this reason, we at Mediawinkel.eu offer different models. You can buy a marine radio from us for both small and large ships.

A fixed or mobile system

In some cases it may happen that your boat does not have room for a fixed system. If this is the case, it is possible to choose the mobile option. Mobile VHF radios can be used wherever and whenever you want, even when you are on the other side of the boat. However, handle a mobile system with care, as it can be easier to lose. A fixed system is always in the same fixed location and it is therefore impossible to lose this system.

Buy and register a marine radio

If you have decided to purchase a marine radio, it is mandatory to register this system with the Telecom Agency before use. After you have registered the system, you will receive proof that you have been included in the frequency user register and you may use the maritime frequencies. You will also receive an ATIS code after registration.

The abbreviation ATIS stands for 'Automatic Transmitter Identification System' and this system enables all kinds of different authorities to see who the authorities want to send a message to. Examples of these authorities include traffic management, locks and, for example, ports. Don't have this code? Then you are not allowed to use this system on inland waterways. It is therefore essential that you register the maritime radio system and receive an ATIS code before you decide to use this system.

The rules regarding the system

If you want to use this system, it is important that you follow a number of rules. The systems have been developed to ensure safety on the waters. The systems are therefore only intended for messages related to the overall safety of ships on the water and not for other messages. To use a marine radio, it is mandatory that you obtain a certificate. There are various operating certificates you can obtain. One starts with the basic certificate. The basic certificate gives you permission to use the device in 'inland shipping mode'. In addition, there are the Marcom-B, Marcom-A and SRC certificates.
