The systems are therefore only intended for messages related to the overall safety of ships on the water and not for other messages. To use a marine radio, it is mandatory that you obtain a certificate. There are various operating certificates you can obtain. One starts with the basic certificate. The basic certificate gives you permission to use the device in 'inland shipping mode'. In addition, there are the Marcom-B, Marcom-A and SRC certificates.
