Looking for a radar for the boat? Feel free to take a look at the wide range of Mediawinkel.eu, because here you will find everything you need in this area. Radar, which stands for Radio Detection and Ranging, is one of the most important instruments for mapping the sailing area in the vicinity of your boat. It increases overall safety on the water, both for yourself and for other ships in the area. Below you can read more about the boat radar. How exactly does boat radar work? Which brands of radar for boats can you find in the Mediawinkel.eu range and which accessories can you purchase to make the radar stand out even better? You can read this and more below.

How exactly does boat radar work?

A boat radar allows you to detect other ships and objects near your own boat. But how is the radar able to do this? If you've ever looked at the interface of a radar, you may have noticed something constantly running on the screen. A radar continuously emits pulses, based on which it detects objects and other ships in the area. These are detected when the transmitted pulses are reflected back. These bounce back when they come into contact with another object. This could be another boat, but a buoy, for example, is also a possibility.

When the pulses detect another object, the radar receiver picks it up. This receiver converts the received pulses into bright spots that are displayed on the interface in the boat. Your own boat is always the center of the boat radar, so that you continuously get a 360-degree view of the sailing environment. A radar emits many pulses, so the image is constantly updated. This keeps you continuously informed of your sailing environment.

More information thanks to a boat radar

A radar is therefore one of the best ways to get a clear and accurate picture of the nearby environment on the water. But when you connect the radar to other instruments, you can see much more information on the radar screen. For example, it is possible to connect a radar to a GPS system, so that you also see the clearest information about your own position. In addition, it is possible to link your boat's radar to the AIS system, so that you receive the most accurate information about the boats in your area. It is also possible to connect the radar to autopilots and electric compasses, so that you never deviate from your course and sail to your final destination as efficiently as possible. This and more is possible. In short, a radar offers you many options to increase safety on the water because you have more information.

Regulations regarding radars

To determine what kind of boat radar you need for the boat, it is smart to check in advance where you want to sail. In some cases it is not necessary to purchase radar, but it is always recommended. Read carefully in advance, because a good radar is half the battle. Especially on inland waterways, it is important to have excellent quality radar, because you must be able to observe the environment in high resolution.
