The Garmin Step Mount is a mounting bracket designed to install a compatible Garmin transducer underneath a flat step in the boat hull. Garmin specifies the mount for compatible 4-, 8- and 12-pin transducers.
This mounting position helps protect the transducer from underwater obstructions and avoids a protruding transom bracket. It is primarily designed to provide good sonar returns at low boat speeds. When the boat is on plane, the transducer may be out of the water and bottom tracking can therefore be lost.
