The Garmin Jack Plate Mount is designed to attach a compatible scanning transducer to the jack plate of a boat's outboard motor installation.
Garmin states that the mount protects the transducer from underwater obstructions while creating no additional drag. The transducer angle can be adjusted so that it sits parallel with the water surface.
The installation is primarily intended to provide good sonar returns at low boat speeds. When the boat is on plane, the transducer may be out of the water, so sonar will not reliably track the bottom.
