Als je een eigen boot hebt waarmee je van plan bent om meerdere malen in het jaar te gaan varen, is GPS boot een onmisbaar onderdeel. Aan de hand van GPS kun je namelijk exact de positie bepalen van jouw vaartuig. Ook in gevallen van nood is het erg handig om hierover te beschikken, want hierdoor kun je zowel snel gevonden worden als om hulp vragen wanneer dit nodig is. Hoe werkt GPS voor de boot?

GPS boot, wat staat voor Global Positioning System, werkt aan de hand van satellieten. Wanneer een GPS een signaaltje verstuurt, pikt de satelliet deze op. Aan de hand hiervan worden de precieze coördinaten van de boot bepaalt, waarna je dus de exacte locatie van jouw boot teruggezonden krijgt. Deze kun je vervolgens waarnemen op de interface. In totaal zweven er zo’n 24 satellieten rond de aarde, zodat je altijd precies kunt zien waar je bent. En niet alleen dat, maar in geval van nood kunnen hulpdiensten ook precies zien waar je bent.

Waarom kiezen voor GPS boot?

Om optimaal te kunnen navigeren op het water, is het kunnen bepalen van je eigen positie van groot belang. Een GPS helpt je hierbij, exacter dan een GPS kun je namelijk niet je eigen positie op het water bepalen. Immers heb je, als je midden op zee zit, geen punten waar je naartoe kunt varen.
